Why you should keep your tech up to date.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
- A lot of smart people.
Dylan and I (Travis) used to work at the same Managed Services Provider, an outsourced IT department for dozens of businesses. One day (in ~2012), I arrive at the office to a commotion - one of our clients' main server was down. This server held their primary line of business application, a CRM that the whole client ran on. This was an old server (Windows NT End of Life in 2004), running old software, and they so far had refused to upgrade due to cost. So we did the best we could to keep it alive, and alive it was - until that day.

Who we are, in detail
How do you answer the question “So what do you do?”
Ah, the question that makes a person’s brain go record scratch and all you can get out is “Uhh..well, where do I start?” - because we all do so many things, right? When you own a business, do you simply say that you’re a business owner? What does your business do? Sometimes it feels like such a loaded question, one just doesn’t know where to begin.
For Dylan and I, we’ve spent our collective decades of experience in the IT industry answering that very question, and now, we’ve got it down to 5 words:

Why Vespasian?
“As long as the Coliseum stands, Rome shall stand.” Saint Venerable Bede
You may be wondering “Why Vespasian Technology?”. To begin answering that question, we’ll need a brief history lesson.
The Roman Emperor Vespasian commissioned the construction of the Flavian Amphitheatre, now known as the Colosseum, in 70 AD. Construction began in 72 AD, and ended in 80 AD under his son’s reign, Titus.
The Colosseum has stood for over 1,900 years and is one of the greatest technological marvels of the ancient world and, indeed, even the modern one. It started out as an arena for gladiator contests, mock battles, dramas, and even animal hunts. It hosted up to an estimated 80,000 people at its peak.
Later on, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire and Rome’s subsequent changes of hands, the Colosseum endured the test of time - hosting a chapel, a cemetery, various housing, workshops, even becoming a castle for a prominent Italian family as time passed into the Medieval Age.
It was hit with an earthquake in 1349 AD, and caused some collapse of the outer structure. Though some of the stone was re-used to build other buildings in Rome, the overall structure still stood, and continued to be inhabited as the centuries drove on.
Eventually, the Vatican and Italian/Roman Government endorsed a more sacred role for the site, and over time, the overall structure was restored. Today, it has become a popular tourist attraction - it has even resumed its original role of an event venue, albeit in a limited capacity.
Though history, and people, have changed, this building and this technology has endured. I (Travis) have stood in this marvel of engineering, architecture, symbolism and enduring legacy, and being there has remained a source of inspiration to this day.
We named our company Vespasian because we want to help companies develop technology strategies that allow their business to stand the test of time like the Colosseum has. In this day and age, one of the biggest contributors to any company’s success is the state of their technology today and whether or not it can adapt to tomorrow. - What’s “good enough” for your business today can quickly become an obstacle to your business tomorrow. Can your technology procurement process handle onboarding 5 new employees this month? What happens if your star sales rep has their phone stolen at a trade show? Last year you did a PCI Self-Assessment, but this year FiServ says they want an audit, will you pass? We’ve seen it all before, we’re here to help. .
Speaking of seeing it all before - the other purpose of this article is to introduce our blog - we’ll be covering everything in this portion of our site, including tech tips, tech stories from the past, emerging technologies we’re keeping an eye on, and ways to optimize your technology so you can focus on growing your business.
So, let’s get in touch today, and help you build your technology infrastructure so that your company, like the Colosseum, endures.
